my 89 civic si died on me the other day w/ what appears to be a fuel related problem..i'm thinking there's a blockage somewhere. today i picked up a fuel filter and also a pcv valve..where on the car is the pcv valve located? is there a fuel pump cutoff switch somewhere? i was told the fuel filter is on the fire wall, so that should be easy to find. thanks in advance..

I believe the PCV is on the back of the block. I think its a big black thing
there isn't a fuel pump switch, but there is a main relay that could be the problem. honda fuel pumps rarely fail and last forever (so I'm told). so if you've got no fuel coming into the filter, the relay could be your problem.

Check also the Main relay. I have met a lot of People with Civic/CRX the same years 88-91 that have problems with the main relay. The common problems are:
1- Car doesn?t want to start sometimes
2- Car Start and then it shut down
3- Car sometimes shuts down while running.
4- Car doesn?t want to start at all
Try to hear if the fuel pump activates when you turn the key to Accessory. You should hear the fuel pump activate. I think this could be the cause.
Hope this helps.

the main relay..is that an electrical thing? i apologize..i don't know a lot about these cars, but i really want to learn. or is that something to do w/ the ignition? if it would cause all the spark to shut down at once then that could be it. can you give me a little more info?

The main relay is located under the dash near the fuse box. What it does it sends the signal to activate the fuel pump when you turn on the ignition switch. If the main relay has problems then it doesn?t send the signal to the fuel pump to activate, so your car will not start because the fuel is not reaching the engine.

pcv valve took all of 2 minutes to change. the fuel filter wasn't too bad..the fuel lines were a little tough to break loose, but not too bad either. drove the car all weekend and haven't had any problems. lets hope that was it! thanks for the help..
